#

50/50 puck: A loose puck that each team has an equal chance to win, usually decided by speed and effort.

A

Audible puck: A larger puck that makes noise as it moves, used in blind hockey so players who are blind or have low vision can track it by sound.

B

Blue puck: A lighter puck, often colored blue, that helps young players learn to pass and shoot with good technique.
Bouncing puck: A puck hopping on rough ice or off a stick, which players usually knock down flat before making a play.

C

Contested puck: A puck two or more players are fighting for at the same time.

D

Dead puck: A puck that is out of play after a whistle, until the next faceoff.
Dryland puck: A puck or puck-like slider made to glide on floors, synthetic ice or pavement for off-ice practice.

F

Frozen puck: A puck kept in a freezer before games so it slides flat and bounces less.

L

Live puck: A puck in play: the game goes on until an official blows the whistle.
Loose puck: A puck that no player controls, which either team can win.

P

Puck: The hard, flat rubber disk used in hockey, about 3 inches across, 1 inch thick and roughly 6 ounces.
Puck out of playRules vary: A puck that leaves the playing area, such as over the glass, into a bench or into the netting, which stops play. Some rule sets penalize sending it out of play from your own zone.

R

Rolling puck: A puck running on its edge instead of sliding flat, which makes it hard to pass, receive or shoot.

W

Weighted puck: A heavier-than-normal puck used in training to build wrist and forearm strength for stickhandling and shooting.
