How we keep players safe

How SportGZ protects players under 18
A parent in every conversation
Coaches can't send one-on-one messages to a player under 18. A parent or guardian is part of every conversation between a coach and their player, and can read every message. Group conversations with players under 18 also include a parent or guardian, or a second screened adult.
Parents book and pay
Players under 18 can't book or pay on their own. A parent or guardian books and pays for them.
Coaches are checked first
A coach can be found, booked or messaged for a player under 18 only after SportGZ confirms their identity, background screening, SafeSport training, disciplinary and registry checks, and insurance, and only while each one is current.
Players under 18 stay private
Players under 18 never appear in search, on public pages like this one, in our sitemaps or on public leaderboards. A player's profile can be shared only with a parent or guardian's approval, and then shows just first name and last initial, birth year, position, level and team.
Sessions at public rinks
In-person sessions for players under 18 take place at public rinks listed on the coach's profile by default.
Video calls with a parent
A one-on-one video call with a player under 18 needs a parent or guardian on the call, or a recording the parent agreed to while they can join at any time.
Report and block, always in reach
Report and Block are in every conversation. Reports involving players under 18 go to our safety team.

Coach profiles list each check SportGZ confirmed and the date it was done. Here's how that looks, with made-up data:
What we never claim
We never call a coach "verified" on its own, and we never show a check we haven't confirmed.
What you can do
Report a concern
Use Report in any conversation in the app and tell us what happened. Our safety team reviews it.
Block someone
Block stops someone from contacting you or your player.
Read your player's messages
As a parent or guardian, you can read every message in your player's conversations with coaches.
